1. Eat a healthy diet

Eat different foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. Fruits and vegetables are full of minerals and proteins essential for our bodies. Therefore, you should always use fruits and vegetables as snacks instead of junk foods. Add more veggies and fruits to your meal.

According to research, people who use fruits and vegetables in their daily routine tend to live more healthy and long lives. In addition, a healthy diet will reduce your risk of malnutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

2. Consume less salt and sugar

Some people, like Filipinos, intake twice the recommended amount of sodium, which increases their risk of heart disease and stroke because of their high blood pressure. Therefore, you should avoid salty snacks and choose low-sodium products. Also, try to reduce the use of soya sauce, fish sauce, and other salts.

Similarly, consuming excessive sugar can result in tooth decay and unhealthy weight gain. Therefore, children and adults should reduce their sugar intake to less than 10% of their total energy intake. In addition, you should reduce sugar intake by limiting the use of soda cans, candies, and sugary snacks.

3. Be Active

You should not be lazy if you want to be healthy. Instead, be active. Try to do physical work. Exercise regularly. It can help you feel better and keep your weight under control.

Depending on your age group, you may require more or less exercise. But individuals between the ages of 18 and 64 should engage in at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise.

Your physical activity includes exercise, morning walks, recreational pursuits, and playing. You can increase moderate-intensity physical activity to 300 minutes per week if you want some additional health benefits.

4. Avoid harmful use of alcohol

Taking alcohol is never a good idea, regardless of your age or health status. Men shouldn’t drink more than 2 drinks every day. Women shouldn’t drink more than 1 alcoholic drink a day. As it’s too much use can damage your liver.

In addition, the use of alcohol can cause health problems such as mental and behavioral disorders. The consumption of alcohol can also cause some cancers and heart diseases. Abusing alcohol also causes deaths in car accidents, murders, and suicides.

5. Reduce intake of harmful fats

Fats consumed by your body should be less than 30% of your total energy intake. If you want to prevent unhealthy weight gain and NCDs, you should not eat food full of fats. As WHO recommends reducing saturated fats to less than 10%of in total energy intake. You should reduce your intake of trans fats to 1% of your total energy intake.

You can reduce your intake of harmful fats by limiting your use of snack cakes, chips, and fast food. According to some studies, foods containing fats can contribute to heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

5. Drink only safe water

On Earth, only 0.2% of water is potable. So drinking contaminated water can expose you to water-borne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. So check your water before consuming. Is it safe to drink?

It’s better to boil your water for at least one minuter before using it. Boiling will kill organisms that are bad for the water. Then, let it cool down to room temperature before you drink it.

6. Talk to someone you trust if you’re feeling down

Depression is a globally prevalent illness. About more than 260 million people are affected by this problem. In this condition, many negative thoughts may come into your mind or have an overwhelming sense of pain. As a result, you may feel hopeless and worthless.

If you are going through this condition, remember one thing you are not alone in who is suffering from this. Just be relaxed, and talk to your loved ones like your family or friends. According to research, people with tight relationships with friends and family enjoy better health and live longer lives.

Be active, exercise, and go on morning walks. This will help you to maintain your physical as well as mental health. The main thing is, don’t drink alcohol because it damages your liver badly. Instead, drink more and more water to keep yourself hydrated. Also, keep your social relation healthy.
